Apple (Malus) Ellison's Orange — Bush, 12L Container, MM106

A much-loved Edwardian dessert apple, Ellison's Orange was raised in Lincolnshire in the early 1900s from Cox's Orange Pippin and Calville Blanc, and at its best can rival Cox for flavour. The yellow-green fruits are flushed and striped brownish-red, with creamy, exceptionally juicy flesh and a rich, aromatic taste that develops a distinctive hint of aniseed when fully ripe. Picked from mid-September, they're best enjoyed fresh from the tree through to October. Hardy and easy to grow, it shows good resistance to scab and mildew, and bears pretty pale-pink blossom in spring.

Grown as a bush on semi-vigorous MM106 rootstock, it makes a productive garden tree of around 3–4m. Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot in well-drained soil. Partially self-fertile and in pollination group D, it will crop on its own but gives heavier yields with a partner from groups C, D or E nearby.
