Apple (Malus) Egremont Russet — Patio, 11.5L container, M27

Rich, nutty and unmistakably English, Egremont Russet is the classic russet apple and a favourite since it was first recorded in 1872. The golden fruits, cloaked in rough bronze russet, have firm, creamy flesh with a sweet, nutty depth of flavour that makes them perfect with cheese. Ready to pick in early October, they store well until December. An RHS Award of Garden Merit variety, it crops reliably and shows good resistance to scab.

On very dwarfing M27 rootstock, this patio tree reaches just 1.2–1.8m, so even the smallest garden, terrace or balcony can enjoy home-grown russets. Give it a sunny, sheltered position and a permanent stake, and water and feed regularly when grown in a container. Partially self-fertile and in pollination group B, it will fruit on its own, with heavier crops when a partner from groups A, B or C is nearby.
