Apple (Malus) Discovery — Half-Standard, 12L Container, MM106

One of the first apples of the season, Discovery brings a taste of late summer straight from the tree. Its bright red fruits have crisp, juicy, creamy-white flesh and a sweet, refreshing flavour with a hint of strawberry, especially delicious eaten chilled on a warm day. Ready to pick from mid to late August, the apples are best enjoyed fresh within a couple of weeks, and any surplus makes excellent juice. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it crops regularly and shows good resistance to scab.

Grown as a half-standard on semi-vigorous MM106 rootstock, it forms a tree of around 4m with a clear stem, making an attractive feature in a lawn or small orchard with room to plant or mow beneath. Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot in well-drained soil and stake firmly for the first few years. Discovery is self-sterile and in pollination group C, so it needs a suitable partner from groups B, C or D nearby to crop.
