A tall, robust Japanese Anemone forming clumps of dark green, deeply divided foliage, with wiry stems that stand well without flopping. From late summer into autumn, it's covered in semi-double, deep pink flowers with golden-yellow centres — a lovely source of colour just as many other perennials begin to fade. Reaching around 60–90cm in height and 60–75cm in spread, it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit and suits borders, cottage gardens, or naturalistic planting alongside grasses and asters. A favourite with bees and butterflies.
Planting & care: Plant in moist, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Once established, it's low maintenance and spreads gradually by rhizomes to form generous clumps — worth bearing in mind in smaller borders. Deadhead through summer to keep the display going, and cut back to ground level in autumn once flowering finishes, ready for fresh growth the following spring. Mulch annually to help retain moisture.
