One of the earliest and longest-flowering of the Japanese anemones, 'Praecox' brings deep pink, bowl-shaped blooms on slender, wiry stems from July right through into autumn, held above a clump of dark green, maple-shaped foliage. Compact compared to many other Japanese anemones, it's easier to fit into borders without overwhelming its neighbours, and the golden-centred flowers are a magnet for bees and other pollinators.
Grow in moist, fertile, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade — it's an unfussy, low-maintenance plant once established, though it dislikes being moved and is best left undisturbed to settle in. Avoid excessively wet, waterlogged conditions over winter. Cut back flowered stems as blooms fade, and expect it to spread gradually by suckers, forming an increasingly generous clump with more flowers each year. Reaching around 35-60cm in height and spread, it's equally at home in a border, container, or coastal garden.
Lovely for late-summer colour in a mixed border, and the flowers cut well for informal indoor arrangements too. Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
