Ananas 'Mi Amigo' (Ornamental Pineapple)

Bring a slice of the tropics indoors with Ananas 'Mi Amigo', a striking bromeliad grown for its bold, arching foliage and its miniature pineapple-like fruit. The glossy, deep green leaves are often tinged red at the tips, framing a small ornamental fruit that ripens through shades of yellow to orange atop a sturdy central stem — a real conversation starter, even though the fruit is grown for looks rather than eating.

Compact and easy-going, 'Mi Amigo' suits a bright windowsill, shelf, or sideboard, reaching around 20–30cm in height and spread. Give it bright, indirect light and warmth (above 15°C), and let the top of the soil dry out slightly between waterings. As a rainforest native, it appreciates regular misting to keep humidity levels up and those leaf tips from browning. Feed monthly during the growing season and repot every 2–3 years into a free-draining mix.
