Amelanchier × grandiflora 'Ballerina' — 12L Pot
One of the earliest trees to flower each spring, Amelanchier × grandiflora 'Ballerina' opens its show with masses of large, white, star-shaped blossom on nodding racemes, appearing before the bronze-tinged young leaves have even fully unfurled. The foliage matures to green through summer before turning striking shades of orange, red and purple-brown in autumn, while small red berries ripen to deep purple — technically edible, though usually left for the birds, who take them quickly.
A vigorous small tree or large shrub with an attractive, shapely habit, 'Ballerina' offers genuine multi-season interest in a relatively compact footprint, making it a popular specimen for smaller gardens, courtyards or informal planting schemes, and a valuable early source of nectar for pollinators.
Grow in full sun or partial shade, in moist, lime-free, well-drained soil — this variety does best on neutral to acid ground, and autumn colour is most vivid in full sun. It's fully hardy (RHS H7), copes with both exposed and sheltered sites, and is generally pest-free, needing only minimal pruning once established.
Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch, supplied in a 12-litre pot ready for planting straight into its final position.
