Acer rubrum 'Brandywine' — 12L Pot
Grown for one of the most reliable and long-lasting autumn displays of any maple, Acer rubrum 'Brandywine' holds dark green, lobed foliage through spring and summer before turning a rich red that deepens to purple-red over several weeks in autumn — a slower, more dramatic colour change than most red maples offer. Small red flowers appear on bare branches in early spring, adding interest before the leaves emerge.
An upright, oval-headed tree, 'Brandywine' has a neater, narrower habit than the wild red maple, making it a good choice where a strong autumn feature is wanted without an overly spreading crown. As a male selection it produces no seed, so there's no nuisance seedling to contend with — a genuinely low-maintenance choice for a specimen position.
Grow in full or partial shade, in reliably moist, well-drained soil — this variety prefers a lime-free, slightly acidic spot and won't perform at its best on chalky ground. It's hardy (RHS H6) but appreciates a sheltered position away from strong winds, and needs only minimal pruning once established.
Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch, supplied in a 12-litre pot ready for planting straight into its final position.
