Acer pseudoplatanus 'Prinz Handjéry' (Top-Worked, Clear Stem 120cm) — 12ltr Pot
A compact, small-growing sycamore with real seasonal character, Acer pseudoplatanus 'Prinz Handjéry' produces a neat, rounded crown of five-lobed leaves that open a vivid shrimp-pink in spring, mature to yellow-green, and reveal a soft purple flush on their undersides through summer. Long clusters of yellow flowers appear in late spring and summer, followed by the characteristic winged fruits that give sycamores their charm.
Top-worked onto a clean 120cm stem, this specimen lifts its rounded, dense head of foliage clear of surrounding planting, making it a neat, self-contained feature for smaller gardens, courtyards, or as a focal point in a mixed border. It's naturally slow-growing and stays compact even at maturity, so it won't outgrow its welcome the way many maples can.
Grow in full sun or partial shade, in any reasonably fertile, moist but well-drained soil — this variety is tolerant of chalk, clay, loam and sand. It's fully hardy (RHS H7) but does best in a sheltered spot out of strong winds, and needs only minimal pruning once its shape is established. As with other sycamores, seeds and seedlings can be harmful to horses if ingested, so it's worth siting away from grazing land.
Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch, supplied in a 12-litre pot ready for planting straight into its final position.
