Acer negundo 'Flamingo' (Flamingo Box Elder)
A real eye-catcher for spring and summer colour, Acer negundo 'Flamingo' produces pinnate leaves splashed with white and pink variegation, opening with a distinct pink flush before settling into their mature green-and-white colouring. The young leaf stems carry an attractive red tint, and come autumn the foliage turns a soft yellow before falling, while the pale grey winter stems keep the tree looking interesting even in the bare months.
Fast-growing and easy to please, it thrives in full sun or partial shade and tolerates a wide range of soils, including chalk, clay, loam, and sand. Reaching an ultimate height and spread of 4–8 metres over 5–10 years, it's naturally compact for a tree of its type, making it a good option for smaller gardens — and it also responds well to regular pruning if you'd rather keep it as a large shrub. Little routine care is needed beyond a light trim from late autumn to midwinter to maintain shape and remove any plain green reverted shoots, which should be cut out as soon as they appear to keep the variegation strong.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
