Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron' 2Ltr

A striking, brightly coloured ornamental grass grown for its vivid, blood-red foliage — erect, linear leaves emerge green at the base and are strongly suffused with deep red through the middle and upper portions, intensifying in colour as the season progresses and creating a bold, glowing effect, especially when backlit by low sun. Occasionally, narrow, silvery flower panicles appear in late summer, adding a subtle contrast to the fiery foliage.

This deciduous grass forms a loose, slowly spreading clump reaching a height and spread of 0.1–0.5m (4in–1½ft), making it a versatile choice for the front of borders, gravel gardens, or containers, where its colour can be shown off to full effect. It grows easily in most moist, humus-rich, well-drained fertile soils in full sun to partial shade, and may need a little winter protection in colder parts of the UK.
