Sorbus carmesina 'Ember Glow' 12ltr Pot

'Ember Glow' is a rowan grown for its long season of colour. Its bluish-green foliage gives a cool, soft backdrop through summer. In autumn it turns warm shades of red and orange, living up to its name. Small red berries follow in autumn, keep their pink-red colour, and hang on the branches well into winter, long after many other trees are bare.

The spring blossom feeds bees and other pollinators, and the long-lasting berries give birds a valuable food source into the colder months. The fruit is ornamental and shouldn't be eaten by people or pets, so wear gloves when handling berried branches.

Grow 'Ember Glow' in full sun or light shade, in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. It tolerates a wide range of soils but does best on acid to neutral ground. It is fully hardy and makes a neat specimen for small and medium gardens, reaching around 5m tall with a spread of 3m. Improve the planting hole with well-rotted compost, stake firmly, and water well through the first summer. Pruning is rarely needed beyond removing damaged or crossing branches in winter.
