Sorbus aucuparia 'Aspleniifolia' – Fern-Leaved Rowan (12L Pot)

'Aspleniifolia' is an elegant form of our native rowan, prized for its finely cut, feathery leaves, which give the tree a light, fern-like look quite unlike ordinary rowans. Clusters of creamy white flowers appear in spring and are followed by bunches of bright red berries, a favourite with blackbirds, thrushes and other wild birds. In autumn the delicate foliage turns glowing shades of orange and red. It's more upright than most rowans and forms a neat, broadly pyramidal crown, which makes it a graceful choice for smaller gardens, driveways and wildlife-friendly planting.

It grows to around 5m x 3m after 10 years. Plant in full sun or light shade in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. It tolerates clay and damp ground. It is very hardy and copes well with urban pollution and coastal conditions. Little pruning is needed beyond removing any crossing or damaged branches in winter.
