Quercus rubra 'Bolte's Gold' – Golden Red Oak (7L Pot)

'Bolte's Gold' is a striking golden-leaved form of the red oak and brings a burst of light to the garden from spring to autumn. Its large, lobed leaves unfurl a soft butter-yellow in spring, mellow to a fresh yellow-green through summer, then glow in rich golden tones in autumn before they fall. It's a more compact alternative to the vigorous species, and makes an eye-catching specimen tree that stands out beautifully against dark evergreens or purple foliage.

It eventually reaches around 8–12m tall with a spread of 2.5–4m, growing steadily over 20 years or more. Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. It grows best on neutral to acid soils, and full sun brings out the brightest leaf colour. It is fully hardy and needs little pruning beyond removing any crossing or damaged branches in winter while young.
