Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus' (Maiden Grass)

One of the oldest and most popular Miscanthus cultivars, 'Gracillimus' forms a dense, fountain-like clump of narrow, arching leaves with distinctive white midribs. From late summer, silky, purple-tinged flower panicles curl above the foliage, gradually fading to silvery white as they mature — a striking late-season display that persists well into winter for lasting garden interest.

A compact, clump-forming deciduous grass reaching around 1 to 1.5 metres in height with a spread of 0.5 to 1 metre, making it a versatile choice as a specimen plant, in prairie-style planting, or as an informal screen. Grow in any moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun, protecting from excessive winter wet. Low maintenance and generally free from pests and disease — simply remove dead foliage and old flowered stems in spring before new growth begins.
