A compact, bushy Gaura (botanically Oenothera lindheimeri), 'Gaudi Rose' produces a haze of rose-pink, star-shaped flowers opening from red buds, held on upright red stems above dark green, lance-shaped foliage flushed with red. Flowering freely from early summer right through to autumn, it's a real magnet for bees, and its neat, clump-forming habit makes it easy to tuck into borders or containers without the sprawl of taller gaura varieties.

Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun for the best flowering, though it will also tolerate drier soils and a little partial shade. Avoid rich, overly fertile ground, as this tends to encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers. Water deeply but infrequently once established, as it's naturally drought-tolerant. Cut back to around 15cm from the ground in early spring, and divide congested clumps every 3-4 years to keep plants vigorous. A dry mulch in late autumn will help see it through winter. Reaching a compact 30cm in height and spread, it's ideal for the front of a border.

Note: it's normal for purplish-brown spotting to appear on the foliage during cold snaps — this is simply a response to chilly weather rather than a sign of disease, and won't affect the plant's health or flowering.

Perfect for softening the edge of a sunny border or brightening a container display. Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
