Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' (Blue Fescue)

A compact, eye-catching ornamental grass forming neat cushions of intensely ice-blue, needle-fine foliage — one of the most vivid blues of all the fescues. From late spring into summer, narrow, bristly blue-green flower plumes rise above the mound and mature to a soft golden-brown, adding extra height and movement without disrupting the tidy form. Foliage turns a touch greener over winter before flushing blue again with new growth.

A small, low-maintenance grass reaching just 10 to 50cm in height and spread, making it ideal for edging, rock gardens, containers, or repeat planting through a border. Grow in poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun for the best colour. Clumps tend to thin out in the centre after a few years, so lifting and dividing every three years or so keeps plants looking their best.
