Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck Gold' (12L Pot)

A striking, upright form of our native beech, 'Dawyck Gold' brings golden colour and architectural presence in a relatively compact, columnar frame — ideal for gardens where space wouldn't normally allow a full-sized beech. New foliage emerges a vivid bright golden-yellow in spring, softening to a paler yellow-green through summer, before turning warm yellow-brown as autumn arrives. This variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

As the tree matures it develops a striking tapering, flame-like silhouette, making it a superb choice for framing a driveway or entrance in pairs, or as a dramatic stand-alone specimen on the lawn. Inconspicuous flower catkins are followed by typical bristly beech fruits in autumn.

Tolerant of a wide range of soils including chalk, clay, loam and sand, it thrives in full sun or partial shade — full sun brings out the richest golden colour. Given time it will grow tall, eventually exceeding 12m, but with a comparatively narrow spread of around 4–8m, making its slender profile far better suited to smaller gardens and tighter spaces than most beech varieties.
