Euonymus hamiltonianus 'Indian Summer' (12L Pot)

A tree-like, deciduous spindle valued for its exceptional two-season display, 'Indian Summer' forms a substantial, vase-shaped shrub or small tree with narrowly oval, scalloped leaves that turn a fiery, glowing ruby red in autumn — a colour change that can begin in mid-October and last for weeks.

Small, unassuming pale green flowers appear in late spring, followed by the real highlight: distinctive four-lobed, dusky pink fruit capsules that split open to reveal bright orange seeds inside, creating a striking colour contrast that persists well into winter and provides valuable food for garden birds. Please note the fruits and seeds are toxic if eaten, so it's best sited away from areas where children or pets might be tempted to sample them.

Tough and adaptable, it tolerates a wide range of soils including chalk, clay, loam and sand, copes well with both exposed and sheltered positions, and thrives in full sun or partial shade — full sun brings out the most intense autumn colour. Given time it will reach an eventual height and spread of around 4–8m, making it an excellent specimen for cottage gardens, wildlife planting, or as a striking addition to a mixed border or informal screen.
