Tulip Kansas Proud (7)

Bold, dramatic and unmistakably eye-catching, Tulip 'Kansas Proud' brings real theatre to the spring border. This striking Triumph variety opens in deep burgundy-red, gradually deepening to a rich maroon-purple with a prominent white feathered base as the flowers mature — a striking two-tone effect that gets better with age.

Reaching a sturdy 20–22" in height, Kansas Proud is a reliable mid-to-late season bloomer, flowering through April and into May on strong, weather-resistant stems that hold up beautifully even in exposed Cornish gardens. The classic goblet-shaped blooms make excellent cut flowers, bringing colour indoors as well as out.

Plant bulbs in autumn, 6–8" deep in well-drained soil, in a sunny to lightly shaded spot. As with all tulips, the bulbs are best kept out of reach of pets and children if ingested, though the plant poses no concern once established in the border.
