Tulip Green Mile (5)

A real conversation-starter for the spring border, Tulip 'Green Mile' combines the best of two tulip groups — the bold central stripe of a Viridiflora with the delicate, softly fringed petal edges of a fringed tulip. Bright yellow blooms are marked with a striking lime-green flame, opening wide to catch the sun and closing again at dusk.

Reaching around 50cm, Green Mile flowers mid-season through April and May, bringing a fresh, zesty colour combination to pots, containers and borders alike. It's exceptionally long-lasting both in the garden and as a cut flower, and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its reliable garden performance.

Plant bulbs in autumn, at twice their own depth and 10–15cm apart, in fertile, well-drained soil with shelter from strong winds. As with all tulips, bulbs and sap can be harmful if eaten and may irritate skin, so gloves are recommended when handling.
