Despite its common name, "summer snowflake," Leucojum aestivum actually flowers in mid to late spring, bridging the gap between the last daffodils and the first alliums. Delicate, nodding, bell-shaped white flowers dangle from upright stems, each petal neatly tipped with a spot of green — like an oversized, more elegant snowdrop. Look closely and you may even catch a faint, delicate chocolate-like fragrance.

Reaching up to 50cm, this tough and easy-going perennial is one of the best bulbs for damp ground, thriving in soil where many other bulbs would struggle. It's perfect for naturalising through mixed borders, woodland edges, or in drifts around the margins of a pond, and multiplies readily once established.

Plant bulbs in autumn, around 8–10cm deep, in moist, humus-rich soil in full sun or partial shade. As with all leucojum, bulbs are ornamental only and should not be eaten; gloves are recommended when handling.

Each bulb is hand-selected before dispatch.
