Anemone hupehensis 'Prinz Heinrich'
A compact, free-flowering Japanese anemone, Anemone hupehensis 'Prinz Heinrich' produces an abundance of semi-double, deep rose-pink flowers, their narrow overlapping tepals surrounding a central tuft of golden-yellow stamens. Carried on wiry stems above deeply divided, dark green foliage, the blooms sway gracefully through late summer and into autumn, bringing colour to the garden just as many other perennials begin to fade.
Reaching around 75cm in height with a spread of 60cm, this well-behaved variety suits the middle of a mixed border, where its slightly shorter, sturdier stems make it less prone to flopping than some Japanese anemones. It grows happily in full sun or partial shade and is unfussy about soil type, provided drainage is reasonably good and it isn't left to sit in excessive winter wet. Once settled, it spreads steadily by rhizome to form an attractive clump, and is a magnet for bees and other pollinators. As with other anemones, the sap can mildly irritate the skin and ingestion may cause stomach upset, so gloves are worth wearing when dividing or deadheading.
Each plant is hand-selected before dispatch.
