Betula utilis subsp. jacquemontii 'Doorenbos' (Snow Queen) — 12Ltr Pot
Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Betula utilis 'Doorenbos' — also sold as 'Snow Queen' — is a medium-sized birch with real presence, forming an attractive oval crown of ascending branches clothed in pure white bark on both trunk and branches. Ovate green leaves turn a clear yellow in autumn, while male catkins up to 15cm long make a striking display in early spring, contrasting beautifully with the bright white stems.
A well-shaped, reliable tree, 'Doorenbos' makes an excellent specimen for gardens of most sizes, and is a popular choice where a genuinely white-stemmed birch with a naturally neat, balanced habit is wanted — equally at home as a lawn specimen or grouped for extra winter impact.
Grow in full sun or partial shade, in any reasonably fertile, moist but well-drained soil — this variety tolerates chalk, clay, loam and sand. It's fully hardy (RHS H7), copes with both exposed and sheltered sites, and needs only minimal pruning once established, best carried out between late summer and midwinter to avoid heavy sap "bleeding."
Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch, supplied in a 12-litre pot ready for planting straight into its final position.
