Betula utilis 'Snow Queen' (Himalayan Birch)

A striking specimen tree grown for its gleaming white, papery bark, which peels to reveal warm orange-buff underlayers and develops its full colour within just a few years — earlier than most other birches. In spring, mid-green ovate leaves emerge alongside soft yellow-brown catkins, turning a rich golden-yellow come autumn for year-round seasonal interest. Upright and elegant in habit, it works beautifully as a single specimen, multi-stemmed feature, or planted in groups for a striking birch grove effect. Thrives in full sun to partial shade on moist, well-drained soil, and tolerates a wide range of conditions once established. Reaches approximately 7m in height with a 3.5m spread over 20 years. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
