Betula utilis subsp. albosinensis 'Kansu' — 12L Pot
A truly aristocratic Chinese birch, 'Kansu' is grown above all for its bark: as older layers exfoliate they reveal creamy-white underlayers washed with copper, orange and pink, creating an ever-shifting display that's especially striking against a bare winter garden. In spring, dangling yellow-brown catkins appear alongside fresh green foliage, which matures to glossy green through summer before turning a soft buttery yellow in autumn. Fast-growing and reliably hardy, it builds into a handsome spreading specimen with relatively little wait.
Position in full sun or light dappled shade, in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Expect an eventual height of 8–12m with a spread of 4–8m, reached over 10–20 years — quicker to size than many birch cultivars, making it a good choice where impact matters sooner rather than later.
Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch.
