Apple (Malus) Dabinett (Cider) Half Standard MM106

A classic West Country bittersweet cider apple, found as a wild seedling in a Somerset hedgerow by William Dabinett in the early 1900s (likely related to the Chisel Jersey variety). One of the most respected single-varietal cider apples in England — highly recommended if there's only room for one cider tree.

Fruit is small, yellowish-green, flushed and striped with red and sometimes russeted. The juice is bittersweet, aromatic, and of such quality that it's widely used on its own to produce a balanced, medium-dry, full-bodied cider without needing to be blended.

A small, spreading, spur-bearing tree with excellent resistance to scab and canker. Flowers in mid-season (pollination group 2) and is reasonably self-fertile, though it will crop even better with a nearby pollinator. A very late cropper, picked in November — fruit should be pressed promptly, as it doesn't keep long. Not pollen-compatible with Chisel Jersey.

Supplied as a half standard on semi-vigorous MM106 rootstock, reaching approximately 4m in height and 3m in spread at maturity, with a clear stem of around 1.5–1.8m — an excellent traditional form for a home orchard or cider-making patch.

Supplied as a healthy, well-rooted tree, ready to establish in its new home. A true West Country classic for anyone wanting to make their own cider.
