Apple (Malus) Braeburn Cordon M9

A well-known, world-famous dessert apple discovered as a chance seedling in New Zealand in the 1950s (likely a cross between Lady Hamilton and Granny Smith). Now one of the most widely grown commercial apples globally.

Fruit is medium to large, with an attractive stippled red flush over green-yellow skin. The flesh is crisp, firm and juicy, with a distinctive sweet-sharp, aromatic flavour. Excellent eaten fresh, and a very good keeper — apples stay crisp in storage for months.

Late-flowering (pollination group 4) and partially self-fertile, though crops best with a pollinating partner from group 3, 4 or 5. A reliable, heavy cropper and well suited to trained forms. Picked from late October and stores well into March.

Grown as a cordon on dwarfing M9 rootstock, reaching approximately 2–2.5m in height when trained on a single stem — ideal for smaller gardens, restricted spaces, or growing several varieties along a wall or fence.

Supplied as a healthy, well-rooted tree, ready to establish in its new home. Best suited to a warm, sheltered, sunny spot, as it needs a good summer to develop its full flavour.
