Aesculus × mutabilis 'Induta' — 7ltr Pot

A charming choice for gardens that can't accommodate a full-sized horse chestnut, Aesculus × mutabilis 'Induta' brings all the character of the genus in miniature. Palmate green leaves, made up of oval-shaped leaflets, provide a handsome backdrop for the flowers — upright, candelabra-like spikes of yellow flushed with pink, carried in late spring and early summer.

A genuinely small deciduous tree, sometimes branching low enough to give it a shrubby habit, 'Induta' reaches no more than around 5m in height and spread, making it a rare thing among horse chestnuts: one that's genuinely suited to smaller gardens. It's a slow grower, so it stays manageable for many years, and works well as an architectural feature or specimen in a cottage or informal planting scheme.

Grow in full sun or partial shade, in any reasonably fertile, moist but well-drained soil — this hybrid tolerates chalk, clay, loam and sand. It's hardy (RHS H6) and copes with both exposed and sheltered spots, needing only minimal pruning once established. As with other horse chestnuts, all parts are best kept out of reach of pets and children.

Each tree is hand-selected before dispatch, supplied in a 7-litre pot ready for planting straight into its final position.
