Sempervivum Lemon Flare 1ltr

A mat-forming evergreen succulent that produces tight rosettes of fleshy, lemon-yellow leaves touched with red, each topped with a delicate webbed centre that gives the wider Sempervivum arachnoideum group its "cobweb" nickname. The colour shifts through the seasons — leaves turn a fresher lime green in strong summer sun — so the display keeps changing throughout the year. Slowly spreading by offsets, it forms an attractive, low-growing carpet that's ideal for rock gardens, troughs, gravel beds, or tucked between paving.

Compact and low-growing, it needs full sun and poor to moderately fertile, sharply drained soil to thrive — good drainage matters more than fertility here. In pots, use a 50:50 mix of peat-free, loam-based compost and grit, and avoid planting it too deeply; keeping the rosette slightly proud of the soil surface, with a mulch of grit around it, helps prevent rot. It dislikes sitting wet over winter, so a well-drained spot or sheltered position is worth prioritising in heavier gardens. Once established it's extremely low-maintenance and drought-tolerant, needing virtually no attention beyond removing the occasional offset to propagate or control spread.
