Bred by Kordes in Germany in 2017 and part of their Parfuma collection, 'Freifrau Caroline' is a real showstopper, boasting vibrant pink blooms with violet undertones. The fully double flowers, with over 40 petals each, form elegant, spherical rosettes measuring 8cm across, backed by lighter pink petal reverses for added depth. A strong, fruity fragrance is the star of this variety — opening with a sweet pear note reminiscent of Williams pear, before softening into gentle apple and apricot tones as the flower matures, reaching its aromatic peak at midday and in the evening. The rose is named after Baroness Caroline von Esebeck, who created lush English-style gardens at her Gonnesweiler estate in the 18th century.

Compact and upright in habit, 'Freifrau Caroline' is a robust and reliable rose, well suited to both experienced gardeners and beginners thanks to its good resistance to common fungal diseases and pests. It performs best in a sunny position, in fresh to moist, nutrient-rich, free-draining soil. A light trim in autumn followed by a proper prune in spring will keep growth strong and encourage prolific flowering right through the season, with feeding recommended at pruning time and again after the first flush of blooms.

Reaching around 70cm (28in) in height, this ADR award-winning variety is superb for group or individual planting in beds, borders, and low hedging, and its wonderful fragrance also makes it an excellent choice as a cut flower.

Each plant has been hand-selected for healthy growth and vibrant colour.
