Also known as 'Goldrush', Forsythia x intermedia 'Goldrausch' brings one of the most joyful displays of the gardening year, its bare branches becoming smothered in large, bright golden-yellow flowers in late winter and early spring, before a single leaf has appeared. The blooms are noticeably larger than those of many other forsythias and tend to arrive a little later in the season, extending the display just as the garden is waking up.

Once the flowers fade, mid to dark green, lance-shaped leaves emerge, building into a dense, bushy framework that carries the plant through summer and into autumn. Forming an upright, well-branched, and regular shrub, 'Goldrausch' is versatile enough for a shrub border, an informal flowering hedge, or training against a wall, and its cut stems also make a lovely addition to spring arrangements indoors.

Fully hardy and wonderfully undemanding, this forsythia grows happily in most soils and tolerates a wide range of positions, from full sun through to partial shade. For the best flowering display, prune back a proportion of the older stems immediately after flowering to encourage strong new growth and plenty of blooms the following year.
