Daphne gemmata 'Royal Crown' 2ltr

A compact, rounded shrub prized for its exceptional fragrance, Daphne 'Royal Crown' produces clusters of buttery-yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers from late spring into early summer, followed by bright red berries against glossy green foliage. Its neat, mounding habit makes it equally at home in a border, gravel garden, or large container by a doorway where its scent can be enjoyed up close.

Size: Reaches around 75cm–1m in height and spread after 5–10 years, making it a manageable choice for smaller gardens.

How to grow: Plant in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in sun or part shade, ideally in a sheltered spot away from cold, drying winds. Mulch around the base to keep roots cool and moist. Daphnes dislike root disturbance, so choose a permanent position from the start. Keep pruning to a minimum, and note that all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so it's best sited away from areas where children or pets may be tempted to nibble.
