A striking, tap-rooted perennial forming a neat rosette of mid to dark green, lance-shaped leaves, each marked with conspicuous dark red veining, reaching around 30-45cm. In early summer, upright branched stems carry tiny star-shaped flowers, opening green before ageing to red, followed by dark brown seed heads.
Bloody dock is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, and is equally happy in a border, container, or at the damp margins of a pond. Young leaves are edible, with a sharp, sorrel-like flavour, making it a decorative and useful addition to the edible garden as well as the ornamental one.
Each plant is hand-selected to ensure it arrives with you in the best possible condition.
