An upright, aromatic herbaceous perennial forming dense clumps of aniseed-scented green foliage, topped from midsummer through to the first frosts with tall spikes of violet-blue flowers. A magnet for bees and butterflies, it's equally at home in cottage-garden borders, wildlife planting schemes, or as a striking cut flower. Growing to around 60–90cm in height with a spread of 45–60cm, it holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit and is fully hardy in UK gardens, needing no winter protection.
Planting & care: Plant in full sun (tolerates part shade) in moist, well-drained soil — good drainage is key, as it won't tolerate waterlogging once established. It's drought and heat tolerant once settled in, needs little maintenance, and doesn't require deadheading through the season. Cut back the old stems in early spring to make way for fresh growth, or leave them standing over winter for extra structural interest.
Each plant is hand-selected to ensure it arrives ready to thrive in your garden.
