A firm favourite for winter interest, 'Jacqueline Postill' is a slender, upright shrub that fills the garden with heady fragrance during the coldest months. Clusters of deep pink buds open from late winter into spring, revealing pale pink, almost white flowers with an intense, sweet scent, followed by small purplish-black berries. Semi-evergreen, leathery deep green foliage provides structure through the rest of the year. Perfect planted near a doorway, gate, or path where its perfume can be enjoyed on the way past.

Size: Reaches approximately 1.5–2m in height with a spread of around 1–1.2m at maturity — an upright, slender habit well suited to smaller gardens and narrow borders.

How to grow: Plant in a sheltered position in moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil, in full sun or partial shade — protection from cold winds and harsh afternoon sun will help it thrive. This daphne resents root disturbance, so choose its final position carefully, as it won't tolerate being moved once established. Keep pruning to an absolute minimum; only remove dead or damaged wood, ideally in mid to late spring. Mulch annually to retain moisture and keep roots cool. As with all daphnes, every part of the plant is toxic if ingested, so site away from areas where children or pets may be tempted to nibble.
