seed-potato-premiere
Seed Potato Premiere

Premiere is a high-yielding first early from the Netherlands, introduced in 1979 and valued by both gardeners and chip makers for its early crops and excellent eating quality. It produces oval to round tubers with thin, pale gold skins and tasty light yellow flesh. With a higher dry matter than most first earlies, it’s a superb early-season choice for homemade chips and roast potatoes, as well as being delicious boiled as new potatoes.

Premiere is quick to establish and bulks up early, with good all-round disease resistance, including resistance to potato cyst eelworm, blight, common and powdery scab, and good drought tolerance. It’s an easy, reliable variety for allotments, raised beds and large containers. Chit your seed potatoes on a cool, bright windowsill for four to six weeks, then plant out from March, around 10cm deep and 30cm apart. Earth up as the shoots develop to protect them from late frosts and keep the tubers covered, as potatoes exposed to light turn green and shouldn’t be eaten. Keep well watered during warm spells, and your first potatoes should be ready to lift from early summer, around 10 to 12 weeks after planting. Best enjoyed fresh, as Premiere isn’t suited to long-term storage.

Each pack is checked before dispatch.
