It produces smooth, white-skinned, oval tubers with firm, waxy white flesh and a classic new-potato flavour. Because it holds its shape so well when cooked and doesn’t discolour, it’s perfect boiled or steamed and served with butter and mint, or left to cool for summer potato salads.

Quick to establish and happy in a wide range of soils, Foremost is an easy choice for kitchen gardens, allotments and large containers. Chit your seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free spot from late winter, then plant out from March to April, around 10cm deep and 30cm apart. Earth up as the shoots develop so the tubers stay covered, as potatoes exposed to light turn green and shouldn’t be eaten. Water well during dry spells, particularly around flowering, and rotate where you grow potatoes each year to help keep soil pests at bay. Your first new potatoes should be ready to lift around 10–12 weeks after planting, from early summer.

Each pack is checked before dispatch.
