Once laid, the smaller pieces settle into a firm base and the larger ones sit on top for show. That makes a comfortable walking surface for garden paths, and a good mulch for beds and borders, where it helps suppress weeds and hold moisture in the soil. It also looks lovely around ponds, rockeries and water features, and as a dressing for pots and containers. Rinse before use, or let rainfall wash away any natural quarry dust.
