Long, pointed, dark green leaves provide a handsome backdrop through summer before turning crimson-purple in autumn. The real display comes in early summer, when small green flowerheads are surrounded by four large, creamy-white bracts up to 5cm long, smothering the plant — followed by fleshy, deep pink, strawberry-like fruits that add further interest into autumn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eGrow in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade — it performs best in neutral to acid conditions but will tolerate alkaline soil too.
