Small, heart-shaped, fresh green leaves turn yellow in autumn, while the white, peeling bark develops attractive dark fissures with age. It rarely flowers or fruits, keeping the focus firmly on form and foliage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eA compact, slow-growing tree, 'Youngii' is a better choice than the larger 'Tristis' for a smaller plot, and its dense, cascading canopy makes a wonderful natural den for children as well as an elegant specimen for a lawn or border.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eGrow in full sun or partial shade, in any reasonably well-drained soil — this variety tolerates chalk, clay, loam and sand, and copes well with exposure.
