Awarded the RHS First Class Certificate in 1899 and the Award of Garden Merit in 1993. Often described as resembling a larger, more robust Cox's Orange Pippin.

Fruit is large and conical, with a greenish-yellow skin flushed and streaked with red, and some light russeting. The flesh is white, sweet, juicy and lightly aromatic — excellent eaten fresh, and equally good cooked, holding some texture rather than collapsing to a purée, making it a great choice for pies and crumbles.

Flowers in mid-season (pollination group 3) and is partially self-fertile, though it will crop even better with a nearby pollinating partner. Strong scab resistance and very regular cropping. Picked from September and best used within a month or so of harvest, as it doesn't keep long-term.

Grown on semi-dwarfing M26 rootstock, reaching approximately 2.4–3m in height and spread at maturity — a good choice for smaller gardens as a bush tree.

Supplied as a healthy, well-rooted tree, ready to establish in its new home.
